DEHRADUN: Thousands gathered in Parade Ground here to witness victory lap of Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday after he defeated his Congress rival by a margin of more than 55000 votes in Champawat.
Chief minister Dhami was welcomed was greeted by a sea of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers and supporters as he landed on Parade Ground this afternoon.
With CM Dhami, Uttarakhand BJP chief Madan Kaushik, and senior Cabinet minister taking their position on an open truck, a procession began at around 5:30 pm and culminated at the state BJP headquartes after two hours.
BJP workers and supporters drove in motorbikes, cars and even on foot, with people lining up the procession route, showing shower petals and shouting celebratory slogans like ‘Dhami Zindabad’ ‘Modi Zindabad’ as songs blared on loudspeakers.
Dhami thanked party workers, people of Champawat and party leaders in his address in the BJP office.
“I thank the people of Champawat, the leader of my party, PM Narendra Modi and all of those people who gave their sweat and blood to make this victory possible,” said the CM.
