NEW DELHI: Decked up like a bride on her wedding day, India’s capital city of New Delhi glimmers under the night sky with lights brighter than the twinkling stars. Preparing for the G20 Summit that is to be held later from 8th September to the 10th, from roads passing through the centre of the city to the derelict alleyways tucked inside, the entire city awaits its convening.

The summit, which is to be held at the newly constructed Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, has brought about the beautification of the entire city, with not just lines of lights but with newly refurbished, swanky clean roads, and eviction drives to clear out slums and illegal settlements, ahead of the event.

During the three-day summit, the Delhi government has announced a public holiday, declaring that educational institutions, markets and offices will remain closed during the course of the event. Metro services are to run according to its usual schedule.

The New Indian photojournalist Sumit Kumar captures some iconic revamped places across the city.
