NEW DELHI: The Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi and the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) are organizing a significant two-day international workshop titled “Indo-US Workshop on 6G Technologies” on December 9th and 10th. The event will be held at the Research and Innovation Park on the IIT Delhi campus.
The primary objective of this workshop is to assess the current status of 6G development in India. The workshop will discuss India’s 6G goals, such as use cases to be addressed, technologies to be developed, intellectual property rights (IPR), prototype and testbed creation, equipment and device manufacturing, and skilled manpower development, and recommend strategies for achieving these goals through Indo-US collaboration.

The workshop will feature panel discussions and talks by prominent telecom stakeholders from India and the US. Participants will include eminent academicians, representatives from government and standardization bodies, telecom operators, and equipment manufacturers.
Prof. Shankar Prakriya, Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi and a telecommunication researcher highlighted the event’s significance. He said “The workshop is a unique opportunity for students, researchers, and engineers to gain firsthand understanding of 6G. It is timely given that 6G research is already underway, and standardization is expected to start next year.”

Workshop Coordinator Prof. Saif Khan Mohammed from IIT Delhi added, “Sixth generation (6G) communication systems are expected to enable new use cases such as ubiquitous connectivity through non-terrestrial networks, industry automation, autonomous driving, and tactile internet/mobile robots. These new use cases bring their challenges of reliability, efficiency, security, and sustainability. One objective of this workshop is to understand the technology enablers for these new use cases and how India can lead in the innovation of new technologies.”
