IIT Delhi expands to Abu Dhabi with PhD program in sustainable energy

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT Delhi) proudly announces the launch of its PhD program in Energy and Sustainability at its newly established international campus in Abu Dhabi. The program is set to begin with its first cohort in January 2025, marking a significant milestone in IIT Delhi – Abu Dhabi’s dedication to advancing research and innovation in the crucial field of energy and sustainability.

 

This new PhD program follows the earlier introduction of an M.Tech. program in Energy Transition and Sustainability in January 2024 and two B.Tech. programs in Computer Science and Engineering, and Energy Engineering in September 2024. These initiatives highlight IIT Delhi’s commitment to providing cutting-edge academic programs and fostering high-end research in areas of strategic importance to the UAE.

IIT Delhi is one of India’s premier academic institutions which boasts a rich history of excellence and has graduated over 60,000 students across various disciplines since its inception. With more than 7,500 PhD graduates to date, including 481 in 2024, the institute is poised to extend its legacy of rigorous research and academic excellence to the UAE. The Abu Dhabi campus aims to continue this tradition by focusing on advanced research and innovative solutions in sustainable energy.

 

The PhD program in Energy and Sustainability will address critical challenges related to achieving NetZero targets. Research areas will include renewable energy, sustainable process engineering, decarbonization, process intensification, microgrids, and power distribution in the evolving energy landscape. The program will also explore the use of AI and data science to aid in the energy transition.

Students will engage in cutting-edge topics for their doctoral dissertations, tackling global challenges in technology and the management of energy transition and environmental sustainability. The comprehensive curriculum is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to make significant contributions to the field.

 

To encourage applications, IIT Delhi has waived the application fee for the first cohort of students starting in January 2025. Full tuition waivers and generous monthly scholarships are available for both UAE nationals and international students who qualify through the selection process. Candidates will be evaluated based on academic merit, qualifying examination scores, relevant experience, and interviews.
