NEW DELHI: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG), in coordination with the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), seized over 300 kilograms of methamphetamine worth approximately ₹1,800 crore during a dramatic overnight operation on April 12–13.

Acting on actionable intelligence provided by the Gujarat ATS, an ICG ship from the Coast Guard Region (West), which was on a multi-mission deployment off the North Maharashtra/South Gujarat coast, swiftly diverted course to intercept a suspected vessel attempting transshipment near the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).

Sensing the approaching Coast Guard ship, the suspect boat dumped its narcotics consignment into the sea and attempted to flee toward the IMBL. A sea boat was immediately deployed by the ICG for recovery operations, while the main vessel initiated a hot pursuit of the suspect craft.

Due to the close proximity to the IMBL and initial separation between the vessels, the suspect boat successfully crossed into international waters, evading apprehension. However, the ICG team in the sea-boat carried out a thorough search under challenging night conditions and successfully recovered a substantial quantity of narcotics dumped in the sea.

The seized drugs were brought to Porbandar for further investigation.

This operation marks the 13th successful joint mission between the ICG and Gujarat ATS in recent years, showcasing the strong synergy and coordination between the two agencies in safeguarding India’s maritime and national security interests.
