NEW DELHI: The Nagaland Police have intensified their investigation into Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Reny Wilfred following multiple allegations of sexual harassment and assault.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the charges, which span several years and involve both adult and minor complainants.
Wilfred, a 2015-batch IAS officer from Kerala, has held various positions in Nagaland, including Deputy Commissioner of Noklak district and Joint Secretary in the stateโs Planning and Transformation Department. In 2021, he was accused of sexually assaulting two minor girls aged 14 and 17 from the Khiamniungan Naga community during his tenure in Noklak.
The Nagaland Policeโs SIT filed a chargesheet in December 2021 under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, citing prima facie evidence of aggravated sexual assault. โ
On April 4, 2025, the Nagaland State Womenโs Commission (NSWC) forwarded new complaints against Wilfred, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) by the police. Subsequently, the state government relieved him of his duties in the Planning and Transformation Department. โ
Wilfred has denied all allegations, claiming they are part of a conspiracy against him. He alleges that documents submitted in court were forged and that individuals were coerced into filing complaints. He also criticized the NSWC for not conducting a fair investigation. โ
The All Nagaland College Studentsโ Union (ANCSU) has called for a thorough investigation, labeling Wilfred a โrepeated offenderโ and urging authorities to take necessary action under the Indian Penal Code.
Wilfredโs attempts to transfer the POCSO trial out of Tuensang district, citing threats to his life, have been rejected by both the Gauhati High Court and the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court dismissed his petition and vacated an interim stay on the trial proceedings, allowing the case to proceed in Tuensang. โ
The SIT continues its investigation into the allegations against Wilfred. Security measures have been heightened, and the state government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice. Further developments are awaited as the legal process unfolds.โ
