NEW DELHI: Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra has assumed command of the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Western Air Command (WAC) as of January 1, 2025.

Commissioned into the IAF as a fighter pilot on December 6, 1986, Air Marshal Mishra is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy in Pune, the Air Force Test Pilots School in Bangalore, the Air Command and Staff College in the USA, and the Royal College of Defence Studies in the UK.
Throughout his distinguished career spanning over 38 years, he has accumulated more than 3,000 hours of flying experience and has held several key command and staff positions.

These roles include serving as the Commanding Officer of a Fighter Squadron, Chief Test Pilot at the Aircraft & Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE), Air Officer Commanding of two frontline air bases, Director of the Operational Planning and Assessment Group, Principal Director of Air Staff Requirements, Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Projects) at Air Headquarters, Commandant of ASTE, and Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Doctrine, Organisation and Training).
Prior to his current appointment, he served as the Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Operations).
In recognition of his exceptional service, Air Marshal Mishra has been awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and the Vishisht Seva Medal.

He succeeds Air Marshal Pankaj Mohan Sinha, who retired on December 31, 2024, after more than 39 years of distinguished service in the IAF.
The Western Air Command, headquartered at Subroto Park in New Delhi, is a pivotal component of India’s air defense, overseeing more than 50 air bases and playing a crucial role in safeguarding the nation’s western frontiers.
Under Air Marshal Mishra’s leadership, the WAC is expected to continue its commitment to operational excellence and readiness, ensuring the security and sovereignty of India’s airspace.
