NEW DELHI: The consecration ceremony of Ram temple witnessed a huge gathering of people including saints, politicians, industrialists, celebrities and several others from all spheres of life on January 22. Actor Jackie Shroff was one such invitee, who played ‘Ram’ in several of his movies.

The New Indian’s Executive Editor Rohan Dua, who was officially invited as a guest to the consecration ceremony in Ayodhya, spoke to the ‘Hero’ fame actor about his feelings on being invited to the grand event. “I was invited despite being a simple boy from the ‘chawls’ in Mumbai, I am honoured. Being invited along with such big dignitaries, it is an honour. I have got the blessing from Lord Ram. We are devotees and the Lord blesses his devotees,” Jackie said.

The ceremony was performed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi which was later followed by an address to the public. Jackie, who played characters named ‘Ram’, said, “I have played Ram in ‘Khalnayak’. Infact, in all the movies, in which I have featured as a cop, my character was named ‘Ram’.”

The actor, who is affectionately referred to as ‘Bhidu’ by the public, broke into chants of ‘Siyavar Ramchandra ki Jai’.
At the event director Subhash Ghai, who has delivered several blockbusters like ‘Taal’, ‘Hero’, ‘Khalnayak’ and ‘Pardes’, was also officially invited. Reminiscing his fond memories from childhood days, Ghai told TNI, “When I was listening to the chanting of mantras in the consecration ceremony, I reminisced about my mother reciting Ramayana in Sanskrit in my childhood. She taught me about values. That’s why, the influence of Ramayana runs very deep into my movies, my stories, and on me as well.”
“Ramanayana shaped my films,” says Subhash Ghai to Rohan Dua.
