I love you too: Kejriwal tells crowd at AAP HQ after MCD poll win

In true filmy style Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “I love you too” back to the huge crowd gathered at Aam Aadmi Party headquarters. Amid chants of Bharat Mata ki jai and sankha dhwani denoting victory, Kejriwal’s unconventional choice of words to express his gratitude to the people of Delhi sent the crowd into a frenzy.

Brimming with happiness after having clinched a decisive victory in the civic polls the CM said,  “I will do the hard-work and fulfil the responsibility that the people of Delhi has given me. I love you too.”

He said just as he has delivered on his promise of providing better health care and education to the people of Delhi, he would also fulfil his commitment of cleaning Delhi and ridding it of garbage.

AAP dodged several attacks from a belligerent BJP that went after the ruling party in Delhi on a range of issues – be it Deputy CM’s alleged involvement in liquor scam, and Satyendra Jain’s massage video fiasco from Tihar jail.

All ministers and top leaders of AAP including Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann were present on the victory podium painting a picture of unity and satisfaction that comes after a hard earned victory.

However, Kejriwal was careful in his choice of words in his victory speech. He said with the win the politics ends, and real work for Delhi’s development begins.

Requesting support from the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kejriwal said, “I request all the parties, politics should end today. From here on we should work for Delhi. I want BJP and Congress support to clean Delhi. All 250 councillors are not of the party, they are of Delhi’s parshad. We want support from everyone. I request the central government and Narendra Modi to give us the support to run the MCD.”

He emphasized the fact AAP will work towards ending corruption in MCD. “Delhi People have given a message to the country. We have not come here to do bad and negative politics. People of Delhi have given the message that you can get  victory by making schools, colleges and hospitals.”

Ending BJP’s 15 years of reign in the civic body, AAP registered its maiden win winning 144 of the 250 seats. The victory podium was shared by all top leaders Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, Environment Minister Gopal Rai, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chaddha.

The vote counting is almost over Delhi MCD elections. The final tally stands at 134 seats for AAP, 104 for BJP, 9 for Congress and 3 independents.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had announced ten promises, including a garbage-free Delhi and a corruption-free civic body, if they win the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) election. People of Delhi voted for the civic elections on December 4.

AAP’s 10 guarantees included no mountain of garbage, a corruption-free MCD, an end to the parking problem, a solution to the stray animal problem, good roads and lanes, good health and education, good parks, a timely salary for its employees, all problems of businessmen will be solved and a proper vending zone for small businessmen.
