Hyderabad Man Arrested For Rape Threat To Virat Kohli’s Daughter

MUMBAI: Mumbai Police Cyber Cell have arrested a man from Hyderabad for issuing online rape threats to the daughter of Virat Kohli, captain of Indian cricket team after the team lost to Pakistan in WC 2021.

Twenty three year old Ramnages Akubathini has been arrested from Hyderabad and is being brought to Mumbai for further interrogation, police said on Wednesday. According to local media, the man is said to be an IIT Graduate and currently unemployed. This puts to rest the rumours that the threats emerged from a Pakistani based account. After the devastating defeat from Pakistan in India’s opening match of world cup 2021, some people across the social media started trolling and threatening the Indian Cricket team. Many Indian cricketers were targeted online because of their performance against Pakistan.

Swati Maliwal, Chairperson of Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) has also taken a suo moto cognizance of the media reports of the threats given to the cricketer’s daughter and family. Maliwal sent a notice to the Delhi Police demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and urged the police to send a copy of the FIR in the case and send a reply to the commission by 8 November.
