SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh Assembly Deputy Speaker Hans Raj has kicked a storm by slapping a kid in a classroom even as the pupil’s father has defended the action and not sought any reprimand against the MLA.

A video purportedly showing the BJP leader slapping the student in a classroom of a government primary school in Chamba has gone viral on social media, raising eyebrows among the educationists and the general public.

Speaking to The New Indian, the Assembly deputy speaker admitted to having slapped the boy during his visit to the school, which he justified as “little strictness.”

“A little strictness is always necessary for the betterment of kids,’ he said.

To add to the public angst, supporters of Hans allegedly tutored the kid’s father, Riyaz Mohammed to speak on camera in favour of the BJP leader.

In the second video, which is also doing rounds on the Internet, the student’s father can be seen supporting and praising the act of Hans.

“There are some miscreants who had shot and widely circulated the video. As the kid’s father, I have no grudges against the leader for slapping my boy,” says the man in the viral video as a man behind the camera seems to tutor him.

This is not the first time that Hans Raj has landed into controversies. He faced the heat over his acts on several occasions in the past.
