House collapse claims four lives in Jammu’s Reasi

Four individuals from a family lost their lives in a house collapse in the Mahore region of Reasi district.

JAMMU: Four individuals from a family, including three young daughters, lost their lives in a house collapse in the Mahore region of Reasi district. Additionally, a private car was struck by a landslide at Pul Doda, resulting in severe injuries to one person.

The individuals who were trapped under the rubble following the house collapse have been recognized as Phalla Akhter (30), spouse of Mohd Farid; Nasima Kousar, 4 years old; Safeena Kousar, 2 years old, and Amreen Kousar, two months old. Senior members of the family, Kalu (60), son of Jumma, and his wife Begum Bano (58), sustained injuries in the incident and were transported to the hospital, where their condition was reported to be stable.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed sorrow over lives lost in a landslide caused by continuous rain in Chassana, Reasi. In a condolence message, he conveyed deep anguish and directed the district administration to offer necessary assistance. Immediate relief measures have been instructed for families affected by heavy rains across the Union Territory. MP Jugal Kishore, expressing shock over a house collapse in Chassana, Reasi, pledged full assistance and coordinated with the Deputy Commissioner for aid to the victims’ families.

Numerous residences sustained damage due to a windstorm and intense rainfall in the Jammu region. However, traffic on the Batote-Doda-Kishtwar road and various other routes has been reinstated today. Power supply disruptions occurred in distant areas of Ramban, Banihal, Gool, Kishtwar, and Doda. In Bani, power remains disconnected following the destruction of power infrastructure by strong winds.

Reports from Ramban indicate that NH authorities intensified efforts this morning to restore traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway due to improved weather conditions. With the 270-km highway, the sole all-weather link connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country, remaining closed for a second consecutive day, the police relocated a significant number of stranded individuals, including over 200 tourists, to safer locations in the Ramban district.

The closure of the highway began early Saturday due to landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones triggered by heavy rainfall at more than a dozen locations between Nashri and Banihal, including Dalwas, Mehad-Cafeteria Morh, Hingni, Seri, Trishul Morh in Ramban, as reported by officials. Additionally, a segment of the road near Panthiyal was washed away.
