New Delhi: The 2024/25 Hockey India League Player Auction kicked off in exciting fashion, with all eight franchises making significant investments to secure the core players of the Indian Men’s Hockey Team.

 

Gurjant Singh was the first player to be sold, fetching ₹19 lakh, while Indian captain and star drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh emerged as the most expensive buy in the first half, going to Soorma Hockey Club for a staggering ₹78 lakh. This made Harmanpreet the highest pick of the day. Abhishek followed closely, being snapped up by the Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers for ₹72 lakh, while Hardik Singh was acquired by UP Rudras for ₹70 lakh.

 

Other key purchases included Amit Rohidas, sold to Tamil Nadu Dragons for ₹48 lakh, Jugraj Singh (also ₹48 lakh) to Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers, and Sumit, who went to Hyderabad Toofans for ₹46 lakh.

Among the international players, Ireland’s goalkeeper David Harte led the overseas acquisitions, with Tamil Nadu Dragons securing him for ₹32 lakh. German goalkeeper Jean-Paul Danneberg went to Hyderabad Toofans for ₹27 lakh, while the Netherlands’ Pirmin Blaak was bought by Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers for ₹25 lakh, and Belgium’s Vincent Vanasch joined Soorma Hockey Club for ₹23 lakh. Indian goalkeepers were also in demand, with Suraj Karkera going to Team Gonasika for ₹22 lakh and Pawan to Delhi SG Pipers for ₹15 lakh.
