NEW DELHI: In what could further escalate his government’s tussle with LG VK Saxena, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has said that Union home minister Amit Shah is responsible for a dramatic escalation in gruesome crimes in Delhi.
In a letter to LG Saxena, CM Kejriwal expressed deep concern over the escalating serious crimes and deteriorating law and order in Delhi, saying that citizens don’t feel safe anymore in the city.
He urged the LG to take swift and decisive action to restore confidence and ensure the safety of Delhi’s residents.

Kejriwal highlighted the gravity of the issue by citing a report from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), revealing that Delhi accounted for 32.20 per cent of crimes against women among 19 metropolitan cities in India. He expresses disappointment that this alarming statistic did not lead to preventive actions and urges the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the LG to promptly address the matter.

Highlighting the shortage of Delhi Police personnel, CM Kejriwal stresseed the urgent need for effective police patrolling, particularly during nighttime hours, to prevent crimes.
To tackle these challenges, Kejriwal proposes a meeting between his Cabinet colleagues and the LG for meaningful discussions, suggesting involving elected MLAs, councillors, and RWAs in joint meetings with police officers to develop improved strategies for reducing crime rates in the city.
The letters comes within days of a 19-year-old student of the Delhi University was killed by goons for objecting to harassment of his female friend in the South Campus and the killing of two sisters by assailants in high security areas of RK Puram.
