HIV-positive Chinese national arrested in Delhi for illegal stay

New Delhi: Delhi Police apprehended a Chinese national, Yu Jia, in the Shakarpur area of Delhi for residing illegally in India. Yu Jia had been living in the country for the past two years on a tourist visa that had long since expired.

Yu Jia, who claimed to be HIV positive and was reportedly undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital, sustained himself by supplying medicine in the local area. Authorities arrested him under the Foreigners Act for violating visa regulations.

During the investigation, police interrogated Yu Jia extensively to determine if he was involved in any illegal activities or espionage. However, no concrete evidence linking him to such activities emerged, and a search of his residence yielded no proof of espionage.

Following his arrest, Yu Jia appeared before the Karkardooma court, which remanded him to fourteen days of judicial custody. He is currently lodged at Mandoli Jail.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) was informed about Yu Jia’s illegal stay, and Indian authorities notified the Chinese Embassy regarding his arrest through diplomatic channels. After completing the necessary formalities, Yu Jia will be deported back to China. The investigation into this matter remains ongoing, and authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
