Himachal Cops Burn Charas Worth Rs 16 Crores

SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh Police burnt about 160 kg of charas, valued at around Rs 16 crore, at Jarad Bhutti in the Shamshi area of Kullu district on Friday.

Director-General of Police Sanjay Kundu, who was also present on the occasion, said that the cannabis was of high quality and its value in the international market was Rs 10 lakh a kg.

He said that the Kullu district is highly sensitive to the cultivation of charas. He said that the police were on alert to eliminate the cultivation of charas and drug smuggling.

“Had great pleasure in burning top-quality Kullu cannabis weighing over 160 kg in Kullu today morning. Kullu cannabis is the best in the world. Total value of this incinerated contraband drugs seized in Kullu district in 43 FIRs is over ₹16 crores. Zero tolerance to drugs,” Sanjay Kundu tweeted.

The contraband was seized in 43 cases registered in different police stations in the district. The Kullu unit of HP police also burnt 120 charas and 80 opium plants.
