NEW DELHI: Under-fire Comedian and YouTuber Samay Raina on Wednesday broke his silence over the vulgar and obscene clips showing him and Ranveer Allahabadia, talking of female and male sexual organs with chaste profane descriptions, while he saying he would โ€œcooperate with agenciesโ€ but didnโ€™t apologise in his remarks.

The 27-year-old abusive Youtuber, known for his aggressive postures, frequent profanities, risque commentary and provocative wild gestures, barely said, โ€œEverything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all โ€œIndiaโ€™s Got Latentโ€ videos from my channel.โ€

His statement, was posted on his Instagram account that has nearly 6 million followers as well as on X.

But neither his fans, nor netizens accepted his statement as any sign of guilt or compunction.

The show producers, he and his father Rajesh Raina had maintained stoic silence over the past four days.

There was mounting criticism over inappropriate content, including controversial jokes and derogatory remarks by him and other panelists in the show founded by him.

Raina was in the US at the time when the clips showing him and Allahabadia went viral.

Incest Jokes Spark Outrage

A significant point of contention arose when a clip featuring YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, went viral. In the episode, Allahabadia posed a provocative question to a contestant: โ€œWould you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life โ€” or would you join in once and stop it forever?โ€ This remark was met with widespread condemnation, with netizens labeling it as โ€œcringeโ€ and โ€œperverse.โ€

The backlash was swift, leading to a noticeable decline in Allahabadiaโ€™s online following. Reports indicate that he lost over 100,000 subscribers across various social media platforms in the aftermath.

Legal Troubles Over Derogatory Remarks

The showโ€™s challenges didnโ€™t end there. In a separate incident, contestant Jessy Nabam made comments perceived as derogatory towards the indigenous people of Arunachal Pradesh. This led to the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against Nabam, accusing her of making culturally insensitive remarks.

The controversies surrounding โ€œIndiaโ€™s Got Latentโ€ caught the attention of the National Commission for Women (NCW). The NCW took serious note of the derogatory and racist comments made during the showโ€™s episodes and subsequently summoned Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahabadia, and other involved parties for a hearing.

Public and Personal Repercussions

The public outcry has not only affected the showโ€™s reputation but has also had personal ramifications for those involved. Samay Rainaโ€™s father, Rajesh Raina, a senior journalist, has faced indirect pressure due to his sonโ€™s controversies.

Despite attempts by media outlets, including The New Indian to elicit a response, Rajesh Raina has remained silent on the matter, leaving many to speculate on the internal family dynamics at play.

As the digital landscape evolves, the responsibilities of influencers and entertainers in shaping public discourse become increasingly significant. The outcomes of the legal proceedings and regulatory interventions will likely set precedents for content standards in Indiaโ€™s burgeoning digital entertainment industry.
