On Monday morning, RPF constable Chetan Kumar Chaudhary, said to be mentally distressed, shot dead four persons – his senior ASI and three Muslims – on the running train between Palghar and Dahisar in Mumbai.

After the shooting, Chetan pulled the emergency alarm and deboarded the train near Dahisar railway station. However, he was later apprehended from Mira Road in Mumbai.

Authorities have announced an ex gratia of ₹10 lakh for the families of the three passengers who lost their lives, and the family of ASI Tikaram will get nearly ₹32 lakh.

RPF officials have said that Chetan was dealing with personal family challenges and was under significant mental distress. He was also upset about his recent transfer from Gujarat to Mumbai Central.
