NEW DELHI: President Donald Trump on Sunday announced Kash Patel as the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), a move that underscores Patel’s unwavering loyalty to the president and his “America First” agenda.

In a statement, Trump praised Patel as a “brilliant lawyer, investigator, and ‘America First’ fighter,” highlighting his extensive career defending justice and exposing corruption.

Patel has been a key figure in Trump’s orbit, having held critical roles during the president’s first term.

Trump credited Patel with playing a pivotal role in uncovering what he calls the “Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax,” referring to the investigations into alleged collusion between Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russia.

He also held the position of deputy director of national intelligence and senior director for counterterrorism at the National Security Council. Trump emphasized Patel’s accomplishments in these roles, praising his leadership in safeguarding national security and his efforts to repatriate American hostages.

In addition to his executive branch work, Patel boasts a legal background that includes over 60 jury trials as a federal prosecutor. Trump highlighted this aspect of Patel’s career, noting his success in dismantling criminal networks and prosecuting cases involving terrorism, narcotics, and organized crime.

Trump emphasized that Patel, working alongside Attorney General Pam Bondi, will “bring back Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity to the FBI.”

Patel’s appointment signals Trump’s intent to reshape the FBI’s leadership and align it more closely with his administration’s priorities.
