Prayagraj: The tragic Hathras stampede, which claimed the lives of over a hundred attendees, has reached the Allahabad High Court. Advocate Gaurav Dwivedi has filed a letter petition requesting the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, Arun Bhansali, to refer the matter to the CBI or initiate a judicial probe.

Dwivedi’s letter demands the suspension of responsible officers and action against corrupt officials accountable for the mishap, which resulted in 127 deaths. He insists on a special investigative agency to conduct a thorough investigation and calls for proper compensation and medical treatment for the affected families.

“I want the suspension of responsible officers and action against those responsible for the deaths of 116 people. Investigation into the matter should be conducted by a special investigative agency,” it reads.

The stampede occurred during a Shiv Katha event in Ratibhanpur, Hathras, as attendees rushed to exit through a small gate, causing chaos. The event, addressed by Narayan Sakar Hari, also known as Bhole Baba, attracted over 250,000 people.

An FIR has been lodged, and police promise stern action against those responsible. If the court accepts Dwivedi’s petition, it could be heard as a public interest litigation, potentially leading to strict judicial orders.
