NEW DELHI: The 4th edition of the India-Malaysia Joint Military Exercise, Harimau Shakti 2024, began on December 2 at Bentong Camp, located in the Pahang district of Malaysia. Scheduled to conclude on December 15, the exercise involves 78 personnel from India’s MAHAR Regiment and 123 personnel from Malaysia’s Royal Malaysian Regiment. The primary objective of this bilateral training event is to enhance joint military capabilities in counter-insurgency operations within jungle terrain, under Chapter VII of the United Nations Mandate.
Yesterday, participants engaged in a series of dynamic and informative activities designed to enhance operational readiness and strengthen bonds between the forces. The day began with lectures and live demonstrations focusing on ambush tactics, counter-ambush strategies, and methods for raiding enemy camps, equipping the troops with critical jungle warfare skills. As the evening approached, traditional games were organized to promote camaraderie and foster mutual understanding.
The exercise is divided into two distinct phases. The first phase focuses on cross-training through lectures, demonstrations, and practical drills in jungle warfare. Training sessions have included ambush tactics, counter-ambush strategies, and techniques for raiding enemy camps. During the final phase, both armies will execute simulated joint operations involving reconnaissance patrols, anti-ambush drills, and offensive actions against terrorist-occupied areas.
