NEW DELHI: A horrific murder case has come to light in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, where the dismembered body of a 35-year-old Merchant Navy officer, Saurabh Rajput, was recovered from a cement-sealed plastic drum inside his home. His wife, Muskan Rastogi, and her alleged lover, Sahil Shukla, have been arrested for orchestrating and executing the brutal killing.

Rajput had married Rastogi despite family opposition and spent much of his time away at sea due to his naval duties. Over time, their relationship grew strained. In an attempt to mend his marriage, Rajput had taken a break from his career to stay at home. However, he later resumed duty after discovering his wifeโs affair with another man.
Investigations indicate that the extramarital relationship became a driving force behind the crime. Shukla, reportedly a habitual drug user, is believed to have influenced Rastogi significantly. The two allegedly plotted Rajputโs murder well in advance.
Cold-Blooded Murder and Dismemberment
Rajput returned to India on March 4 to celebrate his daughterโs sixth birthday. That night, while he was asleep, he was fatally stabbed in the chest by his wife. After confirming his death, the accused duo allegedly moved the body to the bathroom, where it was dismembered into 15 parts. The body parts were then stuffed into a large plastic drum and covered with cement in an attempt to conceal the crime.
The drum remained in the house for nearly two weeks.
Crime Uncovered by Family
The incident came to light when Rajputโs younger brother visited the residence and noticed a foul odor. He also found an unfamiliar man, later identified as Shukla, present in the house. Unable to get satisfactory answers about his brotherโs whereabouts, he informed the police.
Upon inspection, authorities discovered the drum and recovered the decomposed remains. A forensic investigation was immediately launched, and the arrests were made shortly afterward. The suspects were located at a hill station, where they had gone after the murder.
Investigation Reveals Shocking Details
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the crime was premeditated. Investigators are probing further into the relationship dynamics and the planning that went into the killing. Digital evidence, call records, and other forensic material are being examined to strengthen the case.
The authorities are also looking into whether there were earlier attempts to harm Rajput and whether the suspects had any assistance in the crime.
The incident has also raised concern about the future of the coupleโs minor daughter, now left in the shadow of a disturbing tragedy.
As the investigation continues, this case stands as a grim reminder of how personal relationships, when marred by deception and abuse, can lead to horrifying consequences.
