NEW DELHI: As the city braces for another round of elections, Central Delhi remains a focal point for political debate. The New Indian’s team has engaged with voters in key constituencies to gather insights ahead of the elections.
Kamal Choudhary, a local resident, believes that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) should not be in power, citing the poor performance of the Delhi government over the past 15 years. “The work done by AAP has been disappointing,” he says, adding that he believes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should take charge.
However, he also urges BJP to focus on real issues like unemployment and cleanliness, rather than resorting to freebie politics.

“Modi is doing well, but the country needs cleanliness and solutions to unemployment,” Choudhary emphasizes.
A recurring theme in discussions across Central Delhi is Arvind Kejriwal’s leadership. Sandeep Vashisht, another resident, highlights Kejriwal’s own admission of underperforming during his first term.
“He admits he made mistakes and is asking for another chance, but the situation remains unchanged,” Vashisht remarks.
He goes on to criticize Kejriwal’s leadership and the functioning of the AAP government, pointing out that the Delhi Chief Minister’s conditional bail raises concerns about his credibility.
Sandeep Vashisht another resident, believes that Kejriwal’s deputy, Atishi Marlena, hails from a Marxist background, which further complicates the political landscape.
Adding fuel to the fire, Vashisht questions AAP’s recent promises, especially regarding salaries for Maulwis, Punjaris, and Granthis. “The promise of Rs. 18,000 salary for Maulwis is a rumor; they haven’t been paid for months,” he claims.
He contrasts the current AAP government with the previous Congress-led administration, which he believes served Delhi well under Sheela Dikshit, despite some flaws.
