SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha promised the newly constituted Jammu and Kashmir Assembly that the administration would take every necessary step to restore statehood and secure constitutional protections for the region. Addressing the Assembly for the first time, he emphasized that restoring full statehood and rights would honour the people’s commitment to democratic principles.

LG Manoj Sinha highlighted the region’s strong desire for statehood, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had publicly supported this goal on several occasions. Recently, the Council of Ministers in J&K passed a united resolution calling for statehood restoration, reflecting the people’s collective wish for a return to democratic governance.

LG Sinha urged everyone involved to collaborate with his administration to meet the people’s expectations. The high voter participation in the Assembly elections, the first since the repeal of Article 370 in 2019, reflected the people’s confidence in democratic values, he added. He called this election a major step toward restoring democracy in J&K, after years of political turmoil.

The administration plans to assist displaced Kashmiri migrants in returning with respect and security, speeding up housing projects for resettlement. LG Sinha welcomed the newly elected members, noting that the successful, peaceful election underscored the resilience of democratic values in the region.

The administration aims to enhance primary healthcare access and establish dialysis centres at the subdivision level. LG Sinha also reaffirmed plans to bolster the tourism industry, enhance industrial investment, and prioritize the development of 46 new industrial hubs, creating employment in local areas.
