NEW DELHI: Female legislators from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have launched a scathing attack on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, accusing him of inappropriate behaviour with women, on Saturday. The allegations surfaced in the aftermath of a government event in Patna, where Kumar’s conduct towards a female speaker became a focal cause for outrage.

Former Deputy CM Renu Devi, accompanied by MLA Shreyasi Singh and other prominent female legislators, convened a press conference at the party’s state HQ to address the issue.

Devi expressed deep concern over Kumar’s recent behaviour, attributing it to what she described as erratic conduct associated with mental health issues. The legislators asserted that the CM’s action was causing immense turmoil among women in the state.

The incident of Kumar touching the female inappropriately occurred at a livestock fair. Devi condemned the action, highlighting that he should not have been in such close proximity to her face. Devi asserted that these actions by the CM “bring shame to Bihar”.

While talking to the media, she said, “As a Bihari woman, witnessing the recent disrespectful behaviour towards female anchors, particularly this incident where she was inappropriately touched on stage, deeply troubles me.” Devi added that such actions are not unacceptable on a constitutional platform, stating that such actions are not fitting for a CM.

“Such actions not only lack dignity but are also unacceptable on a constitutional platform. It is crucial to understand the boundaries and seriousness associated with constitutional positions. Making jokes or inappropriate gestures on public stages, especially when holding a significant position, is not appropriate,” she said.

The female legislators did not mince words, accusing Kumar of being afflicted with multiple sexual disorders. They emphasised Kumar’s previous usage of lewd comments, causing discomfort among female members.

BJP MLA Shreyasi Singh went a step further stating that Kumar’s behaviour had become more problematic after aligning with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Alleging a lack of control, the legislators urged for an immediate mental health evaluation.
