Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal has issued a notice to Delhi Police and the principal of the Kendriya Vidyalaya located in Central Delhi in connection with a heinous case of alleged gangrape of an 11-year-old student within the school premises.
According to the statement from DCW, the girl was allegedly raped by two boys from the school in July 2022. The girl told the commission that the incident happened when she was going to her classroom.
Two boys from the same school, who were in the 11th and 12th grades, dragged her into the washroom and raped her. She said she was punished because she collided with one of them while heading towards her classroom.
After the incident, she approached a teacher as well. She was told that the boys were expelled but the police were not informed. She also blames the school for trying to hush up the case.
Taking suo moto cognizance of the case, the DCW chairperson issued a notice to Delhi Police and the school principal seeking an action taken report on the matter. The Commission has asked Delhi Police to provide a copy of the FIR and arrests made in the matter. The Commission has also asked Delhi Police and the school to provide information on action taken against the school teacher and/or any other staff for allegedly not reporting the matter to Delhi Police.
The Commission has also asked the school principal to inform us as to when the school authorities learned about the matter and what action was taken by them. The Commission has also asked the school to furnish a copy of the inquiry report conducted on the matter.
“We have received a very serious case of gang rape with an 11-year-old student inside a school in Delhi. The girl has alleged that her school teacher tried to hush up the matter,” Maliwal said.
“It is very unfortunate that even schools are unsafe for children in the Capital. Strict action must be taken in the matter. Also, an inquiry into the role of school authorities must be conducted on the issue,” she added.
The police said that they registered the case as soon as they got the information in July. The matter was investigated, and charges were verified.
