BENGALURU: The World T20 is scheduled to take place later this year in Australia and the preparations for the mega event are in full swing. On Sunday, the official handle of the World T20 unveiled the first promotional video in which a giant avatar of Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant is emerging out of Sydney Harbour.

The video was accompanied with the caption, “Welcome to The Big Time, Rishabh Pant.”

Pant has a special connection with Australia as he was instrumental in the injury-ridden Indian team winning the Test series Down Under in 2020-21. Pant blasted an unbeaten 89 at Gabba (Brisbane) as India chased down 328 to seal a 2-1 series victory. Before the Brisbane Test, Pant had cracked a whirlwind 97 in the 3rd Test at Sydney as well.

The flamboyant left-hander had also thumped an unbeaten 159 – his highest Test score – at Sydney during the 2019-20 tour.

At present, Pant is playing the T20I series in England after clouting a blistering 89-ball ton in the Edgbaston Test. He is currently one of the most dangerous batsmen in the world across formats and is one of the most important batsmen for India.

The World T20 will start on October 16 with Sri Lanka taking on Namibia. India will play their first match on October 23 against the arch-rivals Pakistan in Melbourne.

The hosts Australia are the defending champions as they had routed New Zealand in the final of the last edition in 2021.
