Germany Recognises Covaxin For Travel

NEW DELHI: Germany has decided to recognize WHO-listed Covaxin for travelling to Germany from June 1, German Ambassador to India Walter J Linder said on Thursday.

The German Embassy in New Delhi has been pushing for this decision to Berlin for a long time as thousands of Indian travellers, inoculated by Covaxin, waited for the decision.

“Very happy that GER government just decided to recognize WHO-listed Covaxin for travels to GER, starting June 1! This Embassy has been pushing very actively for such a decision (because of Covid-backlogs visa sections have longer waiting periods than normal, please have patience),” Ambassador Linder tweeted.

This announcement will give a sigh of relief to the travellers visiting Germany, holding the Covaxin certificates.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself is inoculated by India’s indigenous Covaxin. The jab is produced by Bharat Biotech.

On the sidelines of the G 20 summit in 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director General of the World Health Organisation, for Emergency Use Listing of Covaxin with the organisation.

India has been urging countries to accept travellers who are inoculated by India-made Covaxin and Covishield. During his Tokyo visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Prime Minister Fumio Kishida of Japan to further easing the travel restrictions from India and to facilitate quarantine free entry into Japan for travellers from India, inoculated by Covaxin and Covishield vaccines.
