NEW DELHI: A distinguished soldier and a prominent member of the Kashmiri pandit community General (retd.) Tej Kaul, PVSM, AVSM, VSM was awarded the prestigious Dr Nirmala Deshpande Memorial Global Peace Award on Sunday.
The awards committee of Akhil Bharat Rachanatmak Samaj (ABRS), under the chairmanship of its vice-president and former Member of Legislative Council, Maharashtra Mohan Joshi awarded the highly decorated and respected General Kaul at a glittering ceremony in the capital on the 14th Memorial Day celebration of (Late) Didi Nirmala Deshpande.
General Kaul was honoured with the coveted award for his outstanding contribution to the continuous efforts to promote peace between Indian neighbours, primarily India and Pakistan and various humanitarian causes, especially for his efforts in relief and rehabilitation during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir.
General Kaul was responsible for 150 relief and rehabilitation camps up to October 2, 2020, in Jammu & Kashmir.
As a soldier, he had held critical and command assignments in J&K and Punjab during the peak of militancy, including command of an Infantry Brigade and Infantry Battalion. He has also served as Assistant Military Secretary at Army Headquarters, Deputy Director-General, Military Intelligence-Foreign Division, and the General Officer Commanding, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa Area. Gen Kaul has the honour to be the first officer from Officer’s Training Academy, Chennai to be bestowed the Nation’s highest honour for distinguished services of most exceptional order namely the PVSM (Param Vishisht Seva Medal). He has also been awarded AVSM (Ati Vishisht Seva Medal) and the VSM (Vishisht Seva Medal) by the Hon’ble President of India besides a Commendation card awarded by the General Officer Commanding in chief, Northern Command, for distinguished services of the most exceptional order to the nation.
General Kaul has also been bestowed Saraswati Award for humanitarian and social services to humanity by Kailash Math, Maharashtra. He is the Executive President of India Pakistan Soldiers’ Initiative for Peace (IPSI), India Chapter. He founded the organisation & worked tirelessly for peace efforts.
General Kaul is an alumnus of the National Defence College (India), Army War College (India) and Defence Services Staff College (India). He also holds an MSc. (Defence and Strategic Studies), an M Phil (Management & Military Science) and an MBA. He has attended various Operational, Intelligence, Security, and Management Courses and Seminars across the world.
