NEW DELHI: Amidst the post-election drama in Rajasthan, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took aim at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the prolonged delay in announcing the next state leader, a week after the election results were declared. Gehlot, expressing his discontent, highlighted the BJP’s inaction in swiftly nominating a successor, questioning their handling of the situation.
“If the Congress had not selected a chief minister for this long, they (BJP) would have shouted a lot. In the Gogamedi case, I had to sign a document stating no objection to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the matter . The new chief minister should have done this. For seven days now, they (BJP) have not been able to select a CM, I want them to make a decision quickly,” Ashok Gehlot told the media.
Referencing a recent incident involving the Chief of Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi’s tragic demise, Gehlot drew comparisons to emphasise the BJP’s delay in resolving the leadership issue. He stated that had it been the Congress in a similar situation, the BJP would have vehemently criticised and accused them of inefficiency.
The atmosphere in Rajasthan remains tense as investigations into Gogamedi’s untimely death unfold. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the murder, following which Gogamedi was laid to rest in his hometown in Hanumangarh district.
Gehlot, while addressing the lack of discipline within the BJP, said, “For around seven days now, they (BJP) have not been able to announce CM faces in the three states… If we had done the same, I don’t know what allegations they would have levelled against us and misled people. They polarised the polls…We will cooperate with the new government.”
Meanwhile, amidst speculation surrounding the BJP’s potential chief ministerial candidates, names like Vasundhara Raje, Diya Kumari, Mahat Balak Nath, and Rajyavarardhan Singh Rathore have emerged as frontrunners for the coveted post.
As the political landscape in Rajasthan remains uncertain, Vasundhara Raje, a former Chief Minister, met with BJP leader J.P. Nadda, adding to the speculation over the BJP’s selection process.

The BJP’s resounding victory in the recent polls across the Hindi heartland, particularly in Rajasthan, has thrown expectations off balance, with the BJP securing 115 seats and the Congress trailing behind with 69 seats.
Gehlot, while criticising BJP’s election strategies, highlighted the lack of focus on local issues during campaigning, alleging the opposition’s move towards polarisation rather than addressing pertinent issues faced during their term.
