New Delhi: Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, has returned to India following a family emergency. This has raised concerns ahead of the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024, scheduled for December 6 in Adelaide. Despite his absence during the practice match in Canberra, Gambhir is expected to rejoin the team in time for the day-night Test.
Under Gambhir’s guidance, India achieved a historic victory in the first Test against Australia in Perth, winning by a dominant 295 runs. The win marked a significant milestone in the series, with India leading 1-0.
In Gambhir’s absence, assistant coaches Abhishek Nayar, Ryan ten Doeschate, and Morne Morkel will take charge during the team’s practice session in Canberra. They are expected to keep the players focused and prepared for the upcoming challenge. Nayar, who will step in as the lead coach during Gambhir’s absence, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to maintain momentum.

“We’ll do our best to keep the team focused and prepared,” Nayar said. “Gautam’s return will certainly boost the team’s morale.”
Meanwhile, Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who missed the first Test due to the birth of his child, has rejoined the squad. He will take over the captaincy from Jasprit Bumrah for the second Test. Rohit acknowledged Gambhir’s crucial role in the team’s recent success and looked forward to his return.
“Gautam’s leadership and guidance have been instrumental in our recent success,” Rohit commented. “We’re all looking forward to his return and continuing our strong performance.”
The second Test in Adelaide will be a day-night match, featuring the pink ball, presenting a unique challenge for both teams. India is determined to build on their strong start and maintain their lead in the series.
With Gambhir expected to return soon, India will be eager to continue their winning momentum under his expert coaching.
