NEW DELHI: Madhu Kashyap, hailing from Bhagalpur, has made history as Bihar’s first transgender inspector. Raised by her mother in the absence of her father, Madhu’s achievement as a sub-inspector has brought immense joy to both herself and her proud mother.
Bihar has set a pioneering precedent by appointing three transgender inspectors from a pool of 1275 candidates. Among them is Manvi Madhu Kashyap, a resident of Bhagalpur, whose perseverance and dedication led to this historic achievement. Before this, only one transgender constable had been appointed in Kerala.
In 2014, Madhu had to leave her home due to social harassment. Undeterred, she pursued her dream of becoming a sub-inspector in Patna, encountering numerous challenges, including difficulty finding coaching support. Fortunately, with encouragement from Guru Rahman and assistance from two fellow transgenders, she successfully passed the Inspector’s examinhonoration. Madhu attributes her success to the unwavering support of her parents and Guru Rahman.

She holds a BA Honors in Political Science and diligently studied 5 to 6 hours daily in preparation for the Inspector position.
Although Madhu’s father has passed away, his mother has consistently supported him. Now, Madhu aims to honour her mother by serving in uniform as a sub-inspector. She is determined to enhance the social standing of her community and urges society to view transgender individuals as equals, emphasizing their inherent value as human beings.
Madhu has been troubled by the negative attitudes towards transgender people in society, motivating her to advocate for change. Witnessing the unfair treatment towards transgender people has deeply affected Manvi, driving her determination to foster understanding and respect through her role as an inspector.
