From Chitragupt To CG: Ajay Devgn’s Name Changed in ‘Thank God’

The big Diwali release Thank God has been mired in controversies due to its sensitive topic. Ever since the trailer dropped, many have protested that the film mocks the Hindu religion and Hindu Gods. That the lead actor Ajay Devgn played a modern version of Chitragupt, a Hindu deity who has the task of keeping a record of the sins of an individual, didn’t go down well with people. As per media reports, the makers have changed the name of Ajay’s character in the film from Chitragupt to CG and his companion Yamdoot’s to simply YD. Ajay Devgn and Sidharth Malhotra’s ‘Thank God’ had landed in more legal trouble days after a case being filed against Indra Kumar and the actors in a Jaunpur court for the film hurting religious sentiments.  The film directed by Indra Kumar directorial has received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on Friday. The film stars Sidharth Malhotra. In the film he is in a comatose situation when he encounters the Chitragupt like character who forces him to go over all the events in his life. He comes to various realizations.  Rakul Preet Singh also stars. She plays a cop and the love interest of Malhotra.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to hear a plea seeking a stay on the release of the film on an urgent basis.  A bench comprising Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit and Justice Bela M Trivedi listed the plea of Shri Chitragupta Welfare Trust for a hearing on November 1. Thank God will release on October 24 and will see an exciting box office clash with Akshay Kumar’s  Ram Setu, which also stars Jacqueline Fernandez.
