SRINAGAR: Four terrorists were killed in two anti-terror operations in southern Kashmir during the last 24 hours. It is believed that the terrorists were responsible for the killing of a policeman earlier this month.
On Sunday evening, a joint team of Jammu and Kashmir Police, 55 RR and paramilitary CRPF cordoned off Gundipora village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama after receiving inputs about the presence of terrorists in the village.
As the joint team of forces were zeroing in on the target, the terrorists opened fire. The joint team of forces retaliated against the firing leading to a gunfight that lasted overnight. The police said the intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the village was generated by the Kulgam police.
While the intermittent exchange of fire continued till Monday morning, both the terrorists hiding in the village were killed.

“PulwamaEncounterUpdate: 02 local terrorists of proscribed terror outfit JeM trapped in encounter including the killer of our martyr constable Reyaz Ahmad. JeM terrorist Abid Shah had killed an unarmed colleague on 13-5-2022,” police tweeted while quoting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar.
In another anti-terror operation two local terrorists were killed in a gunfight that broke out between terrorists and security forces at Rajpora village of Awantipora area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, officials said on Tuesday.
A joint team of police, Army and CRPF, after receiving information about the presence of terrorists launched a search operation in the area, a police officer said.
He said that as the joint team of forces intensified searches towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired upon the party. He said during the exchange of fire, two terrorists were killed.
IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said that two local militants were killed including Shahid Rather who was involved in the killing of Shakeela of Aripal and a govt employee Javid Ahmad of Lurgam Tral.
“Killed terrorists identified as Shahid Rather of #Tral & Umar Yousuf of #Shopian. Besides other #terror crimes, Shahid was involved in the killing of a woman Mst Shakeela of Aripal & a govt employee/ peon Javid Ahmed of Lurgam Tral,” Kashmir police zone tweeted while quoting IGP Kashmir.
