NEW DELHI – Tragedy struck the bustling Karol Bagh area of central Delhi this morning as a two-storey building collapsed, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to fourteen others. The incident occurred around 9:00 AM, prompting a swift response from emergency services.
The building, located in a densely populated area with narrow lanes, posed significant challenges for rescue operations. Teams from the Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Service (DFS), and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) worked tirelessly to clear the debris and rescue those trapped.
According to the police, the incident occurred in a five-storey building under the jurisdiction of PS Prasad Nagar. The adjacent building also suffered significant damage due to the collapse.

The deceased have been identified as Aman Khan (12), Mukim (25), Mujib (18), and Mohsin Khan (26), all hailing from Rampur, Uttar Pradesh. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, with two individuals reported to be in critical condition. The deceased worked in a local ladies’ slipper-making unit and were originally from Khatanagar village in Rampur district, Uttar Pradesh. Aman, a visitor, was not a resident of the collapsed building.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the building, which was over 60 years old, had structural weaknesses exacerbated by recent heavy rains. Despite a pre-monsoon survey by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) deeming the building structurally sound, the collapse has raised questions about the effectiveness of such assessments.

Delhi Chief Minister-designate Atishi Singh visited the site and the hospital where the injured are being treated. She announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh for the families of the deceased and assured all possible assistance to the injured4. “We are committed to ensuring that such incidents do not recur. I urge residents to report any structural concerns to local authorities immediately,” she stated.
As rescue operations concluded around 5:30 PM, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has been asked to clear the affected area, and further investigations are underway. Legal proceedings have also been initiated under Section 106, 290 BNS.
