In a deplorable act of crime, the ancestral home of former Tripura Chief minister Biplab Deb was set on fire by some unidentified miscreants on Tuesday.

However, no one was in the house when it was set on fire. So far, no deaths have been reported.

According to preliminary reports, the goons attacked the house and managed to break several windows before setting it on fire. The goons also damaged several vehicles near the house.

Local police and district officials rushed to the site and initiated a probe into the incident.

There are reports that suggest that the attack was executed by members of a particular community. Sources also believed that the attack was timed ahead of the death anniversary of Deb’s father, Hirudhan Deb, which falls on January 4. Rituals are held every year in memory of Deb’s father.

According to police, a shop and some vehicles near the house were set on fire and vandalised. Police also said that the goons also destroyed some party flags.

The police stated that the attack occurred while preparations were being made for rituals to be performed on the death anniversary of Deb senior.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleged that the attack on the ancestral home of their beloved leader was carried out by communist-backed miscreants.

The attack happened just after CPIM MLA Ratan Bhowmik held an organisational meeting in the area.
