NEW DELHI:  Former Indian Ambassador to the United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, made a significant move into the political arena on Tuesday by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at its headquarters in New Delhi. Sandhu, renowned for his extensive diplomatic experience and contributions to Indo-US relations, hinted at contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from his hometown, Amritsar.

Having served as India’s Ambassador to the US from February 2020 to January 2024, Sandhu brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the BJP’s political sphere. His tenure witnessed notable advancements in bilateral relations between India and the US, particularly in trade, defence, and strategic cooperation.

In his statement following his BJP affiliation, Sandhu underscored the importance of development and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in this regard.
