KARGIL: A fatal road mishap claimed the lives of five individuals and left two others seriously injured in Ladakh’s Kargil district on Tuesday.
The collision occurred in the Shilikchey area, involving an SUV and a heavy-duty vehicle. Both vehicles veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge, resulting in the tragic loss of life and severe injuries.
A senior official from Kargil Police stated, “The incident involved a Scorpio and a tipper, both of which fell into a ravine. Five people lost their lives, and two others sustained critical injuries.”

Following the accident, teams from Police Station Kargil, along with local volunteers, responded promptly to carry out a rescue operation. The victims were immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed the deaths of five individuals. The other two remain in critical condition under intensive medical care.
Authorities revealed that among the deceased, three were local residents of Kargil, while the other two hailed from Uttar Pradesh.
The Kargil Police have registered a case and initiated a detailed investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
