Five Dead, Nine Other Labourers Injured In Delhi Wall Collapse

NEW DELHI: At least five persons died and nine others were injured after a portion of the under-construction godown collapsed in outer Delhi’s Alipur area on Friday afternoon. All the victims were labourers who were working at the site.

Two months ago, due to the negligent act of the authorities, 27 workers died after the premises caught fire in the Mundka area. Later it was found the building was completely illegal.

Prima facie it was found that the construction at the site was illegal. A case against the owner of the land and contractor has been registered and started the investigation

A call about a house collapse was received from Bakoli village of Alipur at around 12.30 pm by the Delhi Fire Service (DFS). A total of four fire tenders were rushed to the spot where an approximately 100 feet long and 15 feet high wall of an under-construction warehouse had collapsed.

Initially, approximately 20 labourers who were digging a foundation adjacent to the wall were buried under the debris.

Subsequently, ambulances and firefighters also reached the spot. With collective efforts, 13 labourers were shifted to Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandra Hospital.

Five of them were later declared dead. Nine other labourers were injured in the incident.

Police said a case under relevant sections against the owner of the land – Shakti Singh and contractor Sikandar – has been registered. Legal action is initiated.
