NEW DELHI: French giant Alstom on Monday released the first pictures of its aerodynamic modular design of the new MOVIA metro coaches for Agra. The new coaches will offer a host of safety, security, and environmental benefits along with a great passenger experience.
According to Alstom, the Movia metro family offers the latest technology combined with proven and reliable components.
In a statement, Alstom said, “Built with light but strong stainless steel car bodies, the CO2 sensor-based air-conditioned cars are developed with a strong emphasis on eco-friendly design to eliminate hazardous substances, providing a safer environment for passengers.”
The company said that these trains are equipped with modern passenger information systems, automated sliding doors, comfortable seating and standing spaces, dedicated areas for the entry of specially-abled passengers who use wheelchairs, to provide an accessible and welcoming environment for passengers.
The Movia rakes are powered by modern energy-efficient propulsion systems with regenerative braking, which is a sustainable alternative to other modes of transport, thus reducing energy consumption, the company said.
Alstom said, “The trains will be equipped with FLEXX metro bogies and MITRAC propulsion systems to increase energy efficiency, which will reduce operating costs, and ensure the new trains meet the highest environmental standards.”
According to the company, each train will accommodate approximately 960 passengers in the three-car configuration.
“Alstom will also be equipping the Agra metro lines with an advanced signalling solution, CITYFLO 650,” it said.
The new trains have been designed at Alstom’s engineering centre in Hyderabad with the signalling solution developed at Gurgaon. It will be manufactured at its manufacturing facility in Gujarat’s Savli, under the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives.
Alstom India has a history of successfully delivering world-class metro trains to major cities, including Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Lucknow, Kochi in India and Sydney, Queensland, and Montreal at the international level.
Movia metros have been delivered to many cities around the world, such as London, Delhi, Stockholm, and Singapore.
For the Indian market, Alstom is currently manufacturing metro trains for Mumbai Metro Line 3, Bhopal-Indore, and modern trainsets for India’s first semi-high-speed Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor.
On September 18 last year, Alstom delivered the first trainset for the Kanpur metro to Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) in the presence of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Kumar Keshav, UPMRC managing director and Alain Spohr, managing director of Alstom India at its Savli plant.
Valued at approximately ₹2,051 crore, Alstom’s scope on the Agra-Kanpur metro project includes the design, build and delivery of 201 metro cars (67 units of MOVIA metro three-car trainsets) and an advanced signalling solution (CITYFLO 650).
