First electric train trial successfully conducted on Banihal-Khari section in Kashmir

SRINAGAR :In a groundbreaking achievement, the first trial run of the first electric train from Banihal to Khari station took place on the 111-km-long Banihal-Katra section of the Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project in Ramban district on Tuesday.
A considerable audience gathered to witness the historic electric train trial run covering a 16-km track and tunnels between Banihal and Khari stations in Ramban district.
An engineer from Ircon International Limited, engaged by Northern Railway for the USBRL Project, shared insights with The New Indian, stating, “The 25 KV Railway Electrification (ROCS) work between Banihal and Khari stations was completed and the first trial run of an electric engine with six coaches was also successfully conducted by Northern Railway Firozpur division.”

The trial run encompassed the Banihal-Khari section of the Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project in the Ramban district, with trials conducted from Railway Station Banihal to Railway Station Khari in the presence of senior officers, engineers of Northern Railway, and officials from construction company IRCON.

The Banihal-Khari section of the USBRL project in the Ramban district is now prepared for operation, with progress in the last phase of work between Khari to Sumber and Sumber to Sangaldan stations.

A senior official from the Northern Railway provided insights to The New Indian, stating that the track, platforms, Railway Station, and related works were completed in Khari, Sumber, and Sangaldan stations in Ramban district. He highlighted that electrical work on Khari–Sumber–Sangaldan and exhaust work inside tunnels were ongoing.

“The work on residential quarters for Railway staff and other infrastructure for Railway Stations at Khari, Sumber and Sangaldan was almost completed,” the senior official confirmed.
“We are working round the clock to finish pending works on three important stations Khari, Sumber and Sangaldan on the Katra-Banihal track in Ramban district. We are expecting that Rail will chug soon on the Katra-Banihal section,” he added.
