Controversy surrounds Ranbir Kapoor as FIR filed for allegedly offending Hindu sentiments

NEW DELHI: Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor found himself in another controversy with a complaint being lodged against him at Ghatkopar Police Station in Mumbai, on Thursday, for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.

Filed by advocates Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra, the complaint was filed under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The complaint was filed regarding a viral video published by Ranbir Kapoor where his family was celebrating Christmas.

In the video, Ranbir had poured liquor over a cake accompanied by a celebratory ‘Jai Mata Di’. The advocates argued that the deliberate use of intoxicants during Christmas, coupled with the religious chant, is a blatant insult to Hindu sentiments.

Rai and Mishra claimed in their complaint that invoking the Hindu fire god should precede the invocation of other deities, stating that the video was created and circulated with the intent to offend.

However, the FIR has not been filed yet.

Earlier, Ranbir was summoned by the ED in connection with the Mahadev app betting scam since he attended events hosted by the company owned by Sourabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal.

In 2022, Ranbir arrived at the limelight of infamy yet again when an old statement regarding beef consumption resurfaced during a Brahmastra interview. This led to calls for boycott of the Ayan Mukherji directorial.

According to sources, Ranbir’s legal and public relations team is now gearing up to fend off the challenging period ahead.

On the professional front, he was last seen in the movie ‘Animal’ alongside Rashmika Mandana, Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor. Fans are now awaiting the release of its sequel, ‘Animal Park’.
