New Delhi: The Delhi Police have filed an FIR against a hotel in Delhi after its entrance gate was found to be without a Door Frame Metal Detector (DFMD), a critical security lapse just before Independence Day.

“We have lodged an FIR against Hotel Delhi Airport, situated in A Block, Mahipalpur, for not having a Door Frame Metal Detector (DFMD) in place, which is a crucial safety and security measure for guests, especially ahead of Independence Day,” said a senior police official.

The FIR was lodged at Vasant Kunj (North) Police Station in South Delhi.

Beat Head Constable Gaurav, who was on patrol duty and assigned to check hotels’ safety measures and equipment, visited Hotel Delhi Airport, A Block in Mahipalpur, during his inspection. He found that there were no security arrangements for guests, notably the absence of a DFMD machine at the hotel’s entry gate.

Satyender Singh, the hotel’s security-cum-laser in-charge, informed the police that the DFMD machine was not functioning and had been removed from the entry gate for repair. However, the security manager claimed that the machine had been sent for repair.

The police have now lodged an FIR in this connection under Section 223(A) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS 2023).

Ahead of Independence Day celebrations, security has been beefed up across the country. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the Tricolour at the Red Fort and address the nation on Thursday, Delhi police have deployed personnel around the Red Fort, and bomb disposal staff have been carrying out checking of the nearby vicinity of Red Fort with dogs.

The Delhi Police have been taking advantage of artificial intelligence. Many CCTV cameras have also been installed. Special cameras were installed on the Door Frame Metal Detector (DFMD), which will be connected to the facial recognition system to keep a check on invitees coming to Red Fort on the occasion of Independence Day.
