Father Forced to Carry Dead Daughter on Motorcycle Due to Lack of Hearse in Madhya Pradesh

In a distressing incident exposing the poor state of healthcare infrastructure in Madhya Pradesh, a father was compelled to transport his daughter’s body on a motorcycle in the dead of the night on Monday in Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh, after the hospital administration failed to provide a vehicle.

13-year-old Madhuri was undergoing treatment for sickle cell anaemia at the district hospital in Shahdol when she passed away during the course of her treatment on Monday. Lakshman Singh, her father, who resides in Kota village in Budhar block, requested the hospital administration to provide a vehicle to transport his daughter’s body back to their village. However, their request was denied on the grounds that a vehicle would not be provided for distances exceeding 15 kilometres. They were informed that they would have to make their own arrangements for transportation.

The father did not have enough money to arrange for a private vehicle. Despite continuously pleading with the hospital administration, he was unable to secure a vehicle. As a result, he was forced to place his daughter’s body on a motorcycle and set off for his village with the help of his relatives in the darkness of the night.

Upon receiving the information, the district administration intervened to provide assistance to the deceased’s family. In a swift action, District Collector Vandana Vaidya quickly arranged an ambulance for the father who was en route to his village with his daughter’s body on a motorcycle. The ambulance intercepted them and safely transported them to their destination.
