A tragic incident in Pandrathan, Srinagar, saw a family of five found dead in their home, likely from asphyxiation.
SRINAGAR: A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in the Pandrathan area of Srinagar, where a couple and their three children were found dead in their rented home, suspected to have succumbed to asphyxiation.
The victims, originally from Gingal Uri in Baramulla district, had been residing in Sheikh Mohalla, Pandrathan, for the past three months. The head of the family, identified as Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, was a chef at a prominent hotel in Srinagar.
According to police, the family was discovered unconscious inside their home, with an electric blower found in the room. They were rushed to the hospital, but doctors declared them dead upon arrival.

The house owner, Mukhtar Ahmad, revealed that he was informed by Bhat’s mother, who had been trying unsuccessfully to contact her son. Ahmad asked another tenant, Maqsood Ahmad, to check on the family. It was Maqsood who found them unconscious and alerted the police.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed profound grief over the incident, stating, “Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of precious lives in Srinagar. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family during this difficult time.”
Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also conveyed his sorrow, offering prayers for the departed souls and urging the public to exercise caution while using heating devices in winter. He emphasized the importance of following safety guidelines to avoid such mishaps.

Authorities have registered a case, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident. Meanwhile, the tragic loss has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the need for vigilance in winter months.
