Fake Bomb Scare On Kanwar Train; One Arrested

DEHRADUN: Haridwar Police on Monday arrested a man for making a fake call to the Government Railway Police (GRP) about a bomb in a special train for Kanwar pilgrims.

After GRP received a call at around 1.30 am on Monday, a combined team of GRP, Railway Police Force, and state police deployed a bomb disposal squad, and dog squad searching the train.

Ashok Kumar, in charge of the special operations group of the GRP, said, “A drunk man named Rinku Sharma, a resident of Ghaziabad who was travelling in the same train has sounded the fake alert. He has been arrested and a case has been registered against him.”

According to the state police department, more than 2 crore pilgrims have visited Haridwar to date from many states of India.

The police have also decided to use drones to check terror attacks or any other violence in the yatra, said the state police officials.

More than 10000 police force has been deployed and over 300 CCTV cameras will keep an eye on the yatra.

Apart from the state police, many central para-military forces are also aiding in the yatra including Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) to provide security.

For the mela area in Haridwar, one superintendent rank officer, 12 assistant superintendent rank officers, 31 deputy superintendent rank officers and 67 station house officers have also been deputed to smooth out arrangements for the yatra.
