Fadnavis declares Shrikant Shinde for Kalyan LS

Shrikant Shinde, who is the sitting MP and the son of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, will represent the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena in the upcoming elections.

NEW DELHI: In a significant development, Devendra Fadnavis, BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra has announced Shrikant Shinde as the Mahayuti candidate for the Kalyan Lok Sabha constituency. Shrikant Shinde, who is the sitting MP and the son of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, will represent the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena in the upcoming elections.

During an event with BJP workers in Nagpur, Fadnavis declared Shrikant Shinde’s candidacy, paving the way for a fierce electoral battle between the Mahavikas Aghadi and the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition.

Addressing the concerns, Fadnavis asserted, “Shrikant Shinde’s candidacy from the BJP is not opposed by anyone. Shrikant Shinde will be the Mahayuti candidate from Kalyan. The BJP will stand firmly behind him. With full force and more votes than last time, Shrikant Shinde will get elected from Kalyan.”

Speculations had been rife for months regarding the candidate for the Kalyan Lok Sabha constituency. Shrikant Shinde’s prominence in the constituency was undeniable, being the son of the Chief Minister. However, there was opposition to his candidacy from local BJP officials and leaders.

MLA Ganpat Gaikwad had opposed Shrikant Shinde’s candidacy. Even his supporters had not taken up the campaign of Shrikant Shinde. Thane and Kalyan are both electoral areas that Shiv Sena will not give up, this role had been given by Gaikwad.

After Devendra Fadnavis’s announcement, it is clear that Vaishali Darekar will contest against Shrikant Shinde in Kalyan from the Mahavikas Aghadi. A few days ago, Uddhav Thackeray announced the candidature of Vaishali Darekar from UBT Shivsena.

Uddhav Thackeray has played like Shrikant Shinde – son of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and On the other hand, Vaishali Darekar who does not have any major political inheritance. Therefore, a common worker against the son of the Chief Minister is being fought by Uddhav Thackeray. Therefore, it is important to see who will win in this area.
