NEW DELHI: Maharashtra Deputy Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis was at his Bollywood best as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader mouthed some of the famous Hindi film dialogues as he attacked Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) boss Sharad Pawar.

The war of words saw Thackeray take strong objection to Fadnavis’s ‘Parivar Bachao’ barb on opposition parties’ recent meeting in Patna, Bihar.

Reacting to Thackeray’s comments, Fadnavis, while addressing a rally at Chandrapur city, said, “Yesterday I used the word Parivaarwad which has irked Uddhav Thackeray. I want to tell him, Tumko Mirchi Lagi toh main kya karoon.”

Jinke ghar sheeshe ke hote hai woh dusron par patthar nahi fainka karte,” Fadnavis added, citing the late Rajkumar’s memorable dialogue from the 1965 film ‘Waqt’.

“Be it me or my family, it is like an open book. If you have something, try to expose it if you have the guts. But remember, I don’t interfere or intervene in someone’s business. And if I do, then I don’t leave them so easily,” Fadnavis said.

“Those who have skeletons in their cupboards, it’s better they don’t speak about morality. If they come out, we will see if they get exposed,” he added.

Defending Maharashtra Chief minister and alliance partner Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde for his 2022 revolt against Thackeray, Fadnavis said, “Tum karo toh raasleela aur mein karu toh character dheela hai.”

Referring to the 1978 revolt that led to the toppling of the then Congress government, Fadnavis said, “In 1978, Sharad Pawar walked out of the Vasantdada Patil led Congress government and joined hands with the opposition to form the Progressive Democratic Front in the state.”

“What Pawar did was hailed as political statesmanship, but when Shinde did the same, it’s called ‘eimaani,” Fadnavis asked.

Reacting to the statement, Pawar, a veteran politician and a former Maharashtra CM, said, “During the 1970s, perhaps Fadnavis was in primary school. He has no knowledge of what happened then.”

Meanwhile, Fadnavis also alleged that the NCP uses OBCs for their political gains, but in reality, they have not done anything for them. “It’s only PM Modi, who is an OBC, who has worked for the upliftment of OBC. It was under BJP rule that an OBC ministry was created for the development of the community,” Fadnavis pointed out.
