LUDHIANA/NEW DELHI/CHANDIGARH: In what could send shocking waves across Punjab Police and open the scrutiny on drug rut in the border state , the mysterious human bomber, whose sensational court blast in Ludhiana on Thursday triggered a scare across the state, has been identified as a former cop Gagandeep Singh.
Gagandeep was a resident of Amarjit Singh in Khanna district of Punjab, senior police sources told The New Indian.
He was a Punjab Police personnel posted as munshi at police station Sadar Khanna and was last booked in August 11, 2019 under the NDPS Act registered at PS STF Mohali Phase 4.
He died in this bomb blast while assembling bomb inside the court room.
“He was serving in Khanna Police as HC and was dismissed from service due to recovery of 700/800 gram heroine him by STF Ludhiana during the year 2018. At that time he was posted as MHC, PS Sadar Khanna. Before this, during the year 2016-17, he was posted as reader of the then SP headquarters Khanna,” top sources told the New Indian.
The sensational details are emerging as the New Indian speaks to the sources in Punjab Police.
He was an under-trial.
“He was dismissed from the service in 2019 and spent two years in Ludhiana jail. He was released in the month of September. He had huge drug links,” said a senior cop.
He was booked by anti-drugs Special Task Force (STF) led by 1992-batch Harpreet Sidhu, whose report has recently led to registration of FIR against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) supremo Sukhbir Badal’s brother in-law Bikram Majithia.
“No action was taken against the then sho whereas this cop was doing this activity from the police station inspite of repeated letters sent by STF to then DGP Dinkar Gupta,” said a senior cop.
A closed-door team led by DGP Siddharth Chattopadhya and a unit under Organised Crime Control Unit (OCCU) — led by Gurmeet Chauhan— has unmasked the identity even as there are huge question marks over the functioning of Ludhiana Police Commissioner Gurpreet Bhullar, a promotee Punjab Police Service (PPS) officer — now IPS over accusations of multiple breaches despite several terror alerts, including the latest being sent on December 14 on involvement of ISI, pro-Khalistan outfits and drug syndicate.

Sources also said that he had developed illicit relations with a lady head constable.
“When he was in Jail, he was continuously in touch with the ady HC. He was released from jail in September 2021,” police source said.
