Srinagar: Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday termed the Supreme Court’s verdict on pleas challenging the abrogation of the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution “sad and unfortunate”, but said, “We the people of Jammu and Kashmir and we the political parties are no one to sit on the SC judgements because the two most important pillars of the constitution are the judiciary and the Parliament.”

He said, “Unfortunately both of them decided against what we all wished”. Azad said, “ We have to accept the court verdict with humility”. Ghulam Nabi Azad said “Some regional political parties of J&K have the habit of exploiting the sentiments of the people of the region knowing well that they cannot do it. In the past they have done it on multiple occasions and on that plank they have come to power. He said, “Ultimately they have forgotten all the promises that they made to the people of J&K and they want to continue with the same practice even today as well.”

Azad said, “While being unhappy and sad about the final judgement of the court, I would like to congratulate the judges for taking two decisions about the final date of elections and the statehood. Supreme Court today clearly said that the elections have to be held by 30 September 2024 and the statehood has to be restored as soon as possible.

Omar Abdullah tweeted, “Azad Sahab is truly Azad. He’s free to visit his party office while some of us are locked up with our gates chained”. Ghulam Nabi Azad said, “ How does he know? He knows about himself but he is not supposed to talk about others. My movements have also been stopped. I had called the press to my office at 10:30 am but the security did not allow me to go to the office. So I called the press to my residence.” Azad further said, “This is not the time to score points”.
